Description
The Navajo Coyoteway ceremonial, declared extinct by scholars as early as 1910, has survived decades of acculturation in the remote ravines of the conservative Black Mesa area of nothern Arizona. This is the first complete recording of a full nine-night Navajo ceremonial. The photographic sequence, coupled with the author's descriptions and explanations, brings to life the ritual actions and the mythology, as well as the song and prayer texts.
